Allison Welder

"I love to teach what I love to do…"  This statement encompasses my sentiments as an instructor, guide and coach.  As a youth, gymnastics was my passion and it started me on a path of body awareness and experience that continues to unfold into the present moment.  In college, I coached gymnastics and realized that I love helping bodies discover their abilities.  I spent the next several years pursuing another form of kinesthetic awareness on a snowboard.  As an instructor I witnessed many revelatory moments of self discovery and mastery of a skill that once seemed unattainable.  These moments of self-realization also occur often in a yoga practice.

Nothing brings more joy and satisfaction than learning about my own body, how it can move and breathe, and what a remarkable vessel it truly is — I want to share these teachings with anyone who wants to learn. When you come to my yoga class, be prepared for a playful and inquisitive exploration of your self, inside and out.

Praise to my teachers who have tended my desires and intentions on the yogic path.  I am an experienced yoga teacher (ERYT) with a 200-hr YA teacher certificate from Michaelle Edwards who founded YogAlign and taught me the significance of proper spinal alignment as well as the immense influence of the fascial system and the psoas.  In 2021, I completed a 500-hr YA certification at Asheville Yoga Center where I study with Deirdre Smith-Gilmer and Joe Taft primarily, though Michael & Stephanie Johnson also brighten my heart with their teachings.  I am deeply inspired by Anusara yoga and my recent passion derives from Ellen Saltonstall, Cat Matlock and Althea Wilkens’s teachings on myofascial release (MFR) and the use of massage balls. I encourage gentle MFR and self-massage in most of my classes.
